Annually, there are two (2) cohorts, with a cohort starting in March and a cohort starting in August.

The fellowship starts with an in-person Boot Camp prior to transitioning into the provider role. Once in the provider role, fellows will work clinical shifts consisting of days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

The fellowship is broken into three (3) quarters with specific milestones and metrics that must be met at certain intervals. Fellows are required to demonstrate increasing competence throughout the fellowship and undergo regular performance evaluations as well as formative and summative assessments.

Throughout the fellowship, all fellows will engage in didactic sessions, case presentations, journal club, volunteer hours, mentorship, monthly cohort meet-ups, professional development, and many other activities.

Fellows are salaried and full-time employees during the fellowship. All fellows are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and various other employment benefits.

• To be eligible for the fellowship, you must be an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant/Associate.
• For the Cardiovascular ICU specialty track, you must have at least two (2) years of direct patient care experience in the specialty within the last three (3) years and direct ECMO experience or be an ECMO specialist.

• For the March Cohort start – we accept applications March 1 to May 31. Interviews are held in June and offers are extended no later than mid-July.
• For the August Cohort start – we accept applications August 1 to October 31. Interviews are held in November and offers are extended no later than mid- December.
• All candidates that accept a fellowship offer will receive further information and guidance to complete the pre-boarding process.

We highly encourage applying in your last academic semester or post-graduation. Normally, with the interview process, boards, and obtaining the necessary components for the credentialing process plus credentialing, it takes approximately six (6) months post-graduation to complete everything. For those who have graduated and are already licensed when applying to the fellowship, anticipate the credentialing process to take approximately four (4) months.

If selected for an interview, anticipate the interview process to be last approximately 1.5 hours. The interview process includes the traditional interview question-style format with a panel of three (3) to four (4) advanced practice providers and an application-based component.

Fellows will work no more than 160 hours a month, which equates to approximately 40 hours a week. However, given the role is shift work, there may be weeks where you spend slightly more or less than 40 hours. Fellows will also spend time engaging in their project and didactic content.

Yes, all fellows who successfully complete the fellowship are employed with the organization.

Fellows are provided clear expectations and guidelines for fellowship completion on Day One (1) of the fellowship. Each fellow is measured according to specific competency metrics at various intervals throughout the fellowship. Additionally, each fellow is required to complete additional examinations and/or simulation exercises to demonstrate learning.
